Sovereign or communal migration policies?Deutsch | français
One of the political areas in which there is a greater need for action for the European Union is migration and immigration policy. Within its borders, a sharp difference in living standards, wage levels, etc., has led to a significant movement of labour force from East to West, and indeed also the transfer of workplaces from West to East. On the East and South borders of the EU, large scale attempts at illegal migration are multiplying, with often catastrophic outcomes through the sinking of refugee boats, etc. At the EU summit of December 14th to 15th, 2006 in Brussels, a readiness for a communal immigration policy was shown for the first time.
