Open-Memory Box (2016-2020)
The “Media and Memory” project group belongs to the Canadian Centre for German and European Studies (CCEAE) at Université de Montréal. Its members, who include Laurence McFalls, professor of political science and director of the CCEAE, are interested in how different media forms help to shape public and private memory. Since 1990, McFalls has conducted a longterm oral-history study of the cultural causes and effects of the collapse of the GDR. His interviews with over 200 “ordinary” East Germans have led to numerous publications, and his findings have been incorporated into the permanent exhibit of the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig.
