The EU-US-Summit in Vienna was held with the participation of US-President George W. Bush and US-Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice on the one hand, Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel, Austrian Secretary of State Ursula Plassnik, EU-High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, President of the EU-Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, European Commissioner for Trade Peter Mandelson, and Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner, on the other hand. Among the subjects discussed were the line to be taken vis à vis Iran and its nuclear politics, the position to be adopted regarding the democratically elected Hamas government in Palestine, and other issues including cooperation in education. An agreement was signed regarding the latter. President Bush surprised the public by announcing his support of closing the camp at Guantanamo.
